The cheap import junk store used to sell glass chunks with 3D laser made images inside.  They sold a cheap small turntable to rotate/display it. I think that it was less than $5. There were some colored LEDs for lighting the "art" which would need to be disconnected. The rotation was slow and completely smooth. It even had a power jack for operation with a wall wart, so no wiring needed for controlling power.

This purely mechanical solution will work with *any* type of motor.  You just add pins to close a cherry switch to trigger the camera immediately after the turntable comes to a stop at each position. C'est facile, n'est pas?
